The Oklahoma Rummy Scoring Rules
While it is really easy to learn Oklahoma game-play rules there are some problems for people when they think about scoring rules. This is because there are some differences that will be difficult to keep in mind when you are used to other rummy games.
The biggest difference that appears for most people is the fact that Aces are only worth 1 point. You cannot use this card as a high card and it is only used as low. The other cards are worth similar point values as in other games. The face cards are each worth 10 points while the rest of the cards are
worth the exact same point value as their numeric values.
The interesting part of Oklahoma rummy scoring rules is that at the end of the turn we might be faced with different scoring methods that are to be used. The first one appears when a player will knock. When a knock happens the knocking player will receive a point bonus value that is equal to the difference between the deadwood count of the opponent and his own deadwood. Also, there will be an added bonus of 10 points for knocking.
We also have special scoring when a player will go GIN. Gin happens when you only hold melds in your hand plus a card that you can discard. The bonus for going Gin is 25 points but there are some locations where 20 points will be awarded. Also, when a player will go GIN there will be no chance for the opponent to score points.
When draws appear there will be no points awarded. Although draws are very rare, you should know that they will happen when there are no more cards in a draw pile and there is no player that managed to knock till then. The game will end when one player will reach the score of 100 although there is also the possibility to play for higher point amounts. The target score is decided between the players before the game begins.
Different minor scoring variations can appear in Oklahoma rummy games. This is why you will need to consult them before you actually start playing. Think about possible advantages that you can gain from the differences present in scoring. Then all you need to do is play and act accordingly to the modifications that appeared.
